About this book

From those decisive moments in which a difficult decision must be made, to the unguarded moments when our emotional, authentic selves manifest themselves for better or worse – this book explores the actions and outlooks that define leadership. The Intentional Leader clarifies that openness is key to genuinely effective leadership – as Emerson wrote, “The reason why the world lacks unity, and lies broken and in heaps, is because man is disunited with himself.”

We have an overabundance of 'leaders' in our world today. But those who truly stand out are the ones who lead in a way that inspires employees to rally behind the organizational cause – whether that be developing cutting-edge technologies or selling fast food. This is Intentional Leadership, which Tim Hebert defines as clear, aligned, compassionate guidance delivered with a strong core ideology. It's responsive, not reactionary. It's inclusive, not prejudiced. It's transformational, not transactional. It's innovative, daring and inspirational leadership.

Drawing upon his extensive experience as a business leader and consultant, Tim Herbert provides practical advice and broadly applicable guidance that will bolster business leaders across all industries. With an engaging combination of high-profile case studies, first-hand experiences and enlightening research, The Intentional Leader is the essential guide to cultivating an authentic, effective and sustainable approach to leadership.

About the Author

At age three, Tim Hebert had all the characteristics needed to become a successful superhero: high energy, a strong moral compass, a burning desire to have an impact on the world, and a devout admiration for the greatest superhero of all time, Wolverine.

Somewhere along the way – and after many failed attempts to fly –Tim learned that his superpower wasn’t beating up villains. It was empowering the ‘ good guys ’ by igniting the leadership spark in those around him.

As a business owner, national speaker, workshop facilitator, and published author, Tim has explored and defined the principles surrounding Intentional Leadership over the past three decades. As CEO and President of Atrion, a leading IT services firm, he grew this company to $168 million with more than 260 employees. His organization was centred on strong, vibrant culture, empowered employees, and fanatical passion for excellence.

Under Tim’s tenure, Atrion became an employer of choice, named one of Rhode Island ’ s ‘ Best Places to Work ’ companies for seven straight years. Atrion was recognized on the Inc. 5000 List of fastest-growing private companies for eight years in a row and was a perennial on CRN’s Fastest Growing Companies and Top Managed Service Providers (MSP) List.

Currently, Tim serves as CEO and Founder of Trilix, a cutting-edge business and technology consulting firm. He uses his superpowers to activate new beliefs about leadership in audiences around the US. In short, Tim helps his audiences develop into Intentional Leaders.

Tim has facilitated workshops at major companies including Cisco, USRobotics, Assumption College, Rhode Island Quality Institute, National Marker Corporation, Town Dock, Packeteer, Panduit and Banco de Brazil, among others. He has also spoken on the topics of Intentional Leadership, culture, and change at dozens of symposiums and conferences, including NERCOMP ’ s annual conference, SUNY, Tech Collective, InService, NEAP, SHRM, and SIM meet-ups. He has also created many successful events, including his annual ON Leadership Symposium and the Always ON Symposium. His published works have appeared on IDG Contributor Network, BTOES Insights, Channel Reseller and CRN, among others.

He has also taken significant leadership roles as a mentor through The Academy of Career Exploration, a Trustee for the Rhode Island Public Expenditure Council, a Director of the Rhode Island Commerce Corporation, and a board member for several non-profits, including Boy Scouts of America-Narragansett Council, Tech Collective, and Rhode Island Museum of Science and Art (RIMOSA). Tim has served his country as a member of the United States Air Force.

When he isn’t busy speaking, writing and running several companies, you’ll find Tim seeking out his next big climb (South America is next), hopping on a plane to explore someplace new and making sure his office mini-fridge of Diet Coke is always stocked.
